R.I.P. SPARTA

2/6/2015

Picture
It grieves us deeply to have to announce that one of our most beloved ponies, Sparta, passed away this week from a severe case of colic.

Many would say that Sparta was one of our best--if not THE best--Trojan pony; not just because of her skills in the arena, but because she had so much heart and spirit. She was a joy to be around because she loved what she did. Anyone who ever played with her can attest to the fact that she made excited dragon noises whenever she made a good play, and nickered louder than anybody when it was time for treats. Charisma and courage like she had aren't something that can be taught. She was charming, courageous, and spirited because it was her nature.

Sparta was a lion-hearted horse who wanted to be a high-goaler in spite of her age; the kind of horse that a dinky program like USC was lucky to have. We were blessed to have her for as long as we did, and her death has truly left a hole in our hearts.

POLO FUN DAY

1/15/2015

Picture
Join us this Sunday at Fair Hills Farm in Topanga Canyon, CA for some fun polo activities. This event is designed to let people who are interested in joining the club come check out what were about, where we play, and the horses we play with. There will be a Polo 101 to teach the logistics of the game as well as opportunities to get a little hands on experience with the horses and see the Fair Hills Grounds. Free food will be provided in addition to carpools.

INVOLVEMENT FAIR

1/13/2015

It's that time of year again. Involvement Fair! If you're a Spring admit, or just plain old missed us in the Fall stop by our booth and get on our e-mailing list. We'll be in Alumni Park in front of Doheny Library from 11-2pm on Wednesday.

NOVEMBER NEWS

11/5/2014

Hello everyone! A lot of interesting stuff has been going on with our club recently. First, we got a new horse named Martini, who is currently lame but we expect to be joining our string soon. Second, we're teaming up with the RCC to restructure our financials to eliminate the crazy fronting/reimbursement system we've been using for years. (If you're even remotely familiar with what I'm talking about you'll know this is a very good thing!) And third, Ardeshir got a gig on a blockbuster, so he's going to be out of state for the rest of the semester. Don't fret though, Susu will be stepping in to take over team lessons, so the polo should keep on going!

SUNDAY CHUKKERS

10/19/2014

Fair Hills is doing Sunday chukkers this month, and would like to invite any interested Trojans to join. Come join in the fun with Susu, Mike, and Graydon for some fast-paced morning chukkers! Call Fair Hills for more info.

HOMECOMING AND WCT

10/12/2014

Hello everyone! Happy October. We have a big weekend coming up. On Saturday we'll be on campus at Homecoming selling T-shirts before the game, then we'll be spending the rest of the day at California Polo Club watching the WCT tournament with our alumn Arshia (and also probably hawking leftover T-shirts). The WCT is a really awesome women's tournament. You'll have the opportunity to see some really intense arena polo, eat some barbecue, network with the rest of the LA polo community, and peruse Leo's goods if you want to pick up some polo supplies.

JULIAN IS READY TO GO

9/25/2014

As some of you may recall, we got a new Thoroughbred named Julian a few weeks ago. Unfortunately he got laid up by a bad tooth infection, but he's all good to go now! We took him out for a test-run last night, and he's very steady and easygoing, making him a great beginner horse. He's a little out of shape from all that bedrest though, so for now he's only going to be playing in Susu's lessons (sorry team members!).

WILL ROGERS NEEDS GROOMS

9/7/2014

Hello team members! Susu and Mike need an extra set of hands at Will Rogers this season. They would like us to send one groom per day each weekend for the the rest of the month. What's the upside? Well, besides the chance to network at the local grass field, you'll get free parking, and one free polo lesson for each day you groom! Contact Barbara if you're interested, and she'll hook you up with the parking pass.

GOODBYE CLARICE

9/6/2014

Picture
Clarice has officially gone into retirement from polo. She had a very successful career as one of Memo Garcia's high-goal ponies during her youth, and at the age of 25 she's definitely ready for an easier lifestyle. During the year and a half that she was with us, she was an excellent pony, being gentle and reliable enough for beginners, but still alert and athletic enough to be an asset in any team practice. We're going to miss you Clarice! Enjoy your retirement.

FIELD TRIP

9/6/2014

Hello everyone! Our alumni Arshia Rios has kindly invited us to watch a high-goal polo tournament at the beautiful Santa Barbara Polo Club on Sunday, September 21st. If you've never seen grass polo before, there's no better place to start!

We've added a sign-up list on the calendar. She needs a head count a week in advance, and space will be limited depending on how many people with cars sign up, so go reserve your spot now!
